How do you support someone going through cancer?
When a friend or family member has cancer the first challenge can often be understanding the right thing to say or do. Initially, knowing you are there for comfort and help can be the difference that makes treatment easier for your loved one.
Everybody undergoing cancer treatment has a different experience, try not to assume you know what is right, listen to their choices and understand.
Remember that they might not want to talk or think about their cancer all of the time. Having a normal conversation about everyday things and sharing a joke can sometimes be very welcome. Try not to take it personally if they don’t want to talk about their cancer and respect their need for privacy or to have some quiet time.
